By day, I’ am metallurgist in the Steelmaking department of one of the two major steel producers here in Hamilton.

By nights and weekends, I’m an amateur photographer, musician and cyclist, although not necessarily in that order. My passion for each and a few other hobbies tends to shift around a bit. As for photography, I started getting interested back in 1999 when I spent a three month work placement in wonderful Australia, I just wanted something to document the trip. At the time, digital cameras had just emerged and the popular choice at the local camera store was a Kodak model with a whopping 1 megapixel sensor. After some deliberation, I figured the technology still had a ways to go and finally opted for the safe bet and picked up the Canon EOS 300 film SLR (for about the same price). Fast forward about 4 years and digital cameras had come along way, prices where reasonable and the technological improvements had stabilized – at least for point and shoot. This time I picked up the Canon A70 with a respectable 3.2 megapixels. As you can probably tell, I have a thing for Canon. Moving forward another three years and consumer level DSLR’s have finally made their mark starting with the Rebel 300D, 350D and the 20D models. When Canon recently announced an upgrade to their popular 20D model, I knew it was time again to make the plunge and I bought the 30D model (wonderful camera).
