iStanbul is a radically different event from any previous iStockalypse. For the first time ever, we are shooting editorial and not stock photography. Our focus is on education, with more time spent on group learning and discussion than ever before.
Each morning starts with a seminar. Then your group will spend the day in the city covering a specific topic. We then reconvene in the evening to examine each other’s images in a workshop format.
Our goal is to give all attendees both the chance to shoot as much as possible in Istanbul, free of the constraints that go with a studio and a static set of lights, and also to instill them all with as much education on editorial photography as we can cram into 4 days.
Instead of selling tickets in the conventional way, iStanbul is an invite-only event. We have worked closely with the staff at Getty Images to choose the 30 people for this event, based on the potential we see for quickly taking to the editorial style and practices in their work.
Editorial photography is about exploring and capturing stories and themes. We will start with 4 broad themes and then explore them in as much detail as we can manage.
The themes are:
- Faith
- Industry
- Old and new in a rapidly changing society
- Culture and daily life
